For this collection, we found inspiration from clay indigenous to three distinct provinces in Vietnam. (1) Bình Hòa - White Clay (2) Lâm Đồng - Red (3) Clay Vĩnh Long - Black Clay
Wet clay is harvested by placing soil in water to quietly sit. Clay suspends to the top while impurities and debris settle out. Finely filtered, what remains is a mass of clay awaiting endless possibilities.
Unique characteristics appear when clay is touched by fire and heat. Appearances shown are dry, uneven cracks and swirls; dark colors have permission to soften. The beauty of clay is equal parts art & science. The hands interpret form, function and beauty - yet all is contained within organic properties we cannot control.
Historically, clay was made distinct and isolated to where you came from. Today, clays are mixed to create new forms with fresh modern interpretations, while still honoring timeless traditions.
In the ceramics at Que by Kaarem, Chuong Pham mixes the distinct clays together. Uniting methodology and material, our collection is an expression of intentional, modern experimentation and exploration.
